Default Account Security - Tuesday 30th May, 2017, 19:43

Hello everyone,

Something has came to our attention, and that is many of you are still continuing to play Near Reality without using the security measurements offered to you all. Many of you are also using the same password(s) which you have used for accounts on previous RuneScape Private Servers that you have played on.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is free and available for all of you to use. Setting it up will give your account an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access.

Setting up the two-factor authentication is quick and easy, and it can be done via our website - in your Account Settings

Once it’s set up, the two-factor authentication uses a code generator app, such as Google Authentication for Android, iOS, etc. for Windows PCs and phones - to generate a six-digit code.

You will then need to enter this code, when prompted, as a second step each time you log in on a new IP and/or PC.

Then, you can set your in-game account to remember your computer for 30 days, if you wish.

If you are looking for a guide on how to get the two-factor authentication set up, please check out the following guide:

Two-Factor Authentication Activation Guide.

Bank PIN

If, through some incredibly unfortunate string of events, someone manages to make it through the two-factor authentication security measurement (which should NEVER happen), there is another feature to help keep both your gold and items safe.

A bank PIN can be activated by speaking to the Security Guard, who can be found inside Home/Edgeville Bank.

Ask to check your PIN settings.

Follow the on screen instructions.

Reusable Passwords

If you use your Near Reality details for other websites and/or games, the security of all your accounts may be at risk - same goes for if you used the password you have now on past websites and/or games - especially other RuneScape Private Servers.

One reason being is that databases get leaked/sold very often nowadays. People who get hold of them will, without a doubt, try the login details on other RuneScape Private Servers (Near Reality being one of them).

We highly recommend that you use a different password here on Near Reality - a password completely different to what you have used in the past. If you have more than one account, don't use the same password for them all either.

PINs and Passwords

Use strong passwords that contain both numbers and letters (with uppercase and lowercase). Do not share your passwords and bank PINs with others, and do not store them on your computer. If you need to write them down, store your list in a secure, private place. You should change your passwords and bank PINs regularly and use a different password and bank PIN for each of your accounts.

Account Sharing

The simplest form of accounts being stolen occurs when you share login information with another player.

Granted, account sharing is not in the Near Reality rules, however, we do like to encourage players not to do it as most often the relationship between account sharers relationships goes sour, stuff gets stolen, passwords get changed, everyone gets upset with everyone else, and at the end it'll just cause a hassle for the staff team.

YOU

YOU = the biggest and best protection. Please use your knowledge - do not download dodgy things, don't give out your stuff to random people....You don't have to run everything in Kali, use 10 VPNs, and wear a tinfoil hat on your head to block alien rays, just be smart...Think about what you're running and where you're typing your details.

I will create more of a account security guide in the near-future, which will include how to keep your PC and such fully secure as well.

If you have any questions or concerns, please post down below or contact me or any other staff member here on the forum or in-game.

Best Regards,

Near Reality Staff Team

Going to keep this thread bumped from time to time to help remind folks. This sort of thing is happening WAY TOO OFTEN.

If you don't have this enabled, you will not be refunded if your account is comprised. We no longer refund hacks, and haven't done so since 10th April.

Keeping man safe. If you can manage to chuck all your items into your bank, before you log off everyday and have a pin set, you're 2/3 of the way to being more secure, easy days.
