Default How to maximize the security of your account (Avoid being hacked) - Saturday 2nd June, 2018, 20:39

So recently I have been seeing a lot of complaints about individuals getting hacked and losing their items. So I've decided to write this guide, which should, hopefully, provide you with the correct information on how to maximize the security of your account and computer systems.

A lot of this information may already be old news or common sense, but remember it is informative and will help prevent losses.

Passwords

  • Avoid using any password you have used previously.
  • Ensure all passwords contain an uppercase, lowercase, number and special character (!#"@ etc).
  • Use a password manager to store your passwords securely.
  • Ideally, use a password generator and then store them in a password manager so there is less risk of forgetting the password.

Software

  • Keep all software, including your operating system, up to date. This prevents any exploit abuse.
  • Ensure your antivirus software has the most recent database, most software packages will update automatically so make sure you let it update!

General advise

  • If something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
  • Do not give out personal information; if someone is asking suspicious questions, either ignore them or give them false answers.
  • Make sure you scan the items you download.
  • Check the website URL thoroughly to ensure you are on the correct website.

Security

  • Enable two-factor authentication on everything that offers it - especially Near-Reality (and emails).
  • Ensure all information, such as contact number is up-to-date on your email account, so if you do get hijacked you can recover it with ease.

Things to do

  • Enable two-factor authentication (2fa) via the Account CP on the forums.
  • Enable a bank pin
  • Check here to see if your information has been leaked online - if it has, make sure to change your password now!

Resources

Password Managers

StickyPassword

Dashlane

Anti-malware

Malwarebytes

IObit Malware Fighter

I hope this short guide helps people and hopefully, it reduces the breached accounts.

If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Shorter version:

Get a bank pin and 2fa. Change your password.

Please do these TODAY if you haven't done them already.
